Mythology and Archetypes in Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird      Ã‚  Ã‚   Of all the various approaches to criticism, the Mythological/Archetypal achieves the greatest impact over the entire literary scope, because the themes and patterns unearthed apply universally to all works, yielding results that can be applied to a great many texts. This is because the very nature of the Mythological/Archetypal approach is the exploration of the canon for widespread and pervading symbols, plots, and characters. These are all greatly extant in Harper Lee's classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird, an extraordinary examination of the Depression-era South through the eyes of a young girl with rare intelligence and insight, living in a small town which is filled with these archetypal images. To Kill a Mockingbird, when approached from the Mythological/Archetypal viewpoint, is a prime example of the three primary elements that the method of criticism inspects: universality in character, symbol, and plot.      Ã‚  Ã‚   Universal characters in To Kill a Mockingbird are present, and well documented. Qantas Airline is Australias domestic and largest airline company. It is also one of the powerful brands in Australia and the most successful airline company in the world. It was originally termed and registered as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Limited (QANTAS). This brand has reputation in providing operational reliability, safety and excellent customer services. The main business of the Qantas Group is related to transportation, for which it uses two complementary airline brands- Qantas and Jetstar. The company has more than 3000 employees and around 93% is based in Australia (Qantas.com, 2017). The Qantas airline has implemented a significant change in the context of strategic focus and competitive advantage or sustainability. The change initiative includes the development of an airline JetStar, which is a cost-leading airline alongside in Qantas. The company has also taken strategies such as constructing loyalty program to face threats from new entrants. The company has focused on the development of five segments diversification that would help in developing the secondary subsidiaries, which aids it in smoothening the revenues and profit generation. It will also minimize the risks that could arise from the sole dependency on the single business unit, which was Qantas alone. Other changes include resource and capacity distribution among five business segments for maximum profitability. The international strategy includes growth in the new markets, like Asia. The company has to reduce the barriers for the entry and focus on the global and transitional strategy for penetratin g the Asian market. The strategic change in a company is occurred in response to stabilizing and sustaining the business activity at the corporate, organizational and personal levels. It is followed by the planning, initiating, realizing and controlling. The strategic change initiatives help to establish a unique positioning in the market, controlling threats and revealing opportunities (Hayes, 2014). The Qantas Airline Company has taken changes initiatives as this company has been facing number of problems related to global financial crisis in 2008. For this reason, there is incensement of the new entrant competition. The company requires developing new competitive strategies. The company wants to deliver the returns to its shareholders. The changes have been taken for maximizing the ability of the company to sustain the competitive advantages and to achieve highest average returns. The organization Qantas airline is going through a number of challenges, as it had to take change initiatives. The company generated revenues more than 15.8 billion dollars. However, due to global financial crisis in 2008 the company has faced problems related to sustaining the prior revenue generation. The company also faced problems like providing sustainable returns to its shareholders and increasing competition with new entrants (Milanpintar.com, 2017). The brand needs to sustain in the competitive international market with expanding the competences. The Qantas has used change management like building group strategy that would provide sustaining returns to its shareholders. The company has also used competitive strategies like developing a cost-leading airline Jetstar along with services in Qantas. However, the company developed strategies that focus on the rationalization of the core competences and development of an approach that would resist other forces related to competition in international market. The company has done this by price wars with the competitors and minimizing costs by involving the suppliers. The company has developed a loyalty program that has helped it to face the threats from the new entrants. There were various challenges faced by the airline company. The challenges include sustainability in the growing market with all the competitors or entrants are also approaching the same market. The company needs to maintain its unique position in the market. The company has faced challenges related to competitive advantages and the company needs to develop strategies that would help them to sustain in the market. The company gets human resource support by providing an excellent human resource system to the organizational work structure. William Shakespeare William Shakespeare On April 26, 1564, John Shakespeare's son, William, was baptized at the Stratford Parish Church. No one knows for certain when his birthday was. (Brown 22) It was thought that young Shakespeare began attending school at the age 7, in Stratford. (Wadsworth 344) Before Shakespeare reached the age of 13, his family endured hardships. Shakespeare's formal schooling ceased. At that time, William may have begun helping his father in the gloving business. (Wright 22) "There is historical warrant for such an approach. Christian images, of course, pervade Shakespeare's culture, throughout his career he obviously thought in terms of them. If those images are themselves frequently allegorical, and we should consider the extent to which the allegories are incorporated into the living texture of Shakespeare's creations." (Kirch 18) At a young age Shakespeare may have viewed annual plays and seen traveling artists. These performances possibly ignited a spark that continues to burn. (Wright 20) William Shakespeare was an Englishman who wrote poems and plays. According to many he was labeled as one of "the greatest dramatists the world has ever known and the finest poets" who wrote in the English language. Shakespeare's work relied mostly on his instincts of nature. His understanding of other people allowed him to fully grasp the quality he wrote of. (Wadsworth 342) John Shakespeare married Mary Arden in 1557. Both the Shakespeare's and the Arden's were farmers, and sold their products to make a living. (Brown 23) Shakespeare had two sisters. Joan died in 1562; Margaret died at infancy. Then in 1566 Gilbert was born. In 1569 a second child named Joan was born; in 1571 came Anne, who died when she was eight year's old. Richard was then born in 1574 followed by Edmund in 1580. (25) William Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway at the age of 18. Anne was at least 8 years her husband's senior. The marriage record dates November 27, 1582 in an Episcopal register found in Worchester. (45-46) The custom in Stratford after the eldest son married, was for the new couple to live in the house of the groom's father. In all likelihood, Shakespeare obeyed the customary procedure. (Wright 24) Shakespeare and his wife probably had a good and happy marriage. She gave birth only 6 months after they were legally wed. (Wilson 43) Shakespeare's son named Hamnet was only 11 years old when he died. He also had a daughter named Judith. Judith Shakespeare had 3 sons who died at young ages. Shakespeare's only bloodlines were the descendants of his (second) sister Joan. (Brown 25-26) Between 1585 and 1592, there was no account of a man named William Shakespeare. Typically referred to as the lost years. There were no records of his life. Some scholars believe he was living in London serving as an apprentice. Others believe he retreated and wrote under a fake name. (Wadsworth 345) At about age 20, some people thought young William stole a dear from a wealthy man in order to poach. A crime not tolerated during that period. (Wright 6) Eight years before the death of Shakespeare he wrote 4 new plays. Some scholar's debate, which plays, was his last. Very little was known about him before the age of 28. (Wilson 38) He continued to visit Stratford on occasion. (Wadsworth 347) He bought a house in London where he gradually retired. On April 23, Shakespeare was laid to rest inside the Stratford Parish Church in 1616. Shakespeare was a young 52 when he died. (Wadsworth 347) "For nearly a century after his death Shakespeare remained more a theme for criticism by the few than a subject of adulation by the many." (Brown, 2) William Kent erected a stone statue of William Shakespeare. The statue is located in the Poet's Corner of Westminster Abby. (Wright 8) Shakespeare may not have felt a calling to write when he left Stratford, but he had a lot to learn in the big city of London. (44-45) After Shakespeare went to London, he joined an acting group. He had no experience. He was merely a performer. (43) William Shakespeare was an important part of a troupe called the Lord Chamberlains Men. He eventually became an honored senior member. (11) Writing plays soon became a demanding business. Companies were always looking for new material. With few new plays, companies began paying for the plays. Once a play was sold it became the property of the company.
